Benefit to Christies

There are many benefits to Christies in having the presence of our members in the park:

  • Mountain Valley pays rental fees for their training areas so that they will not be used for any crop but hay. This makes the land available for recreational use.
  • As we train in many different areas of the park, all year-round, vandalism has been reduced to almost zero.
  • All of our members put in a special effort to keep our training grounds free of litter, especially glass. Garbage left laying around is not only an eyesore but is also dangerous and distracting to the dogs when they are trying to work and learn

Guns are not used in training or at trials. Instead, we use noisemakers that are fitted for primers (the same that are used for construction.)

Mountain Valley training grounds

Our training grounds are at Christie Lake on the south side of Highway #5, approximately two miles east of Highway #52.

To train retrievers on these grounds, you must be a member of the Mountain Valley Retriever Training Club (for insurance reasons, and also to comply with Provincial legislation having to do with dogs in our various Conservation Areas). If you are a member, it's very important that you carry your membership card while training.

By provincial law and by the legislation that governs the conservation areas, dogs are required to be leashed. Because Mountain Valley has a leasing agreement with Christie's,our members may train off leash but must have their dogs under excellent control at all times. This is only allowed in our designated training areas which are marked by signs in the park [see the club's training rules].
